Video Video: See Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford Sing a Gender-Bent 'Phantom of the Opera'

Ashford is doing her best Michael Crawford impression.

MCC Theater is slowly releasing videos from its past Miscast concerts and we're very grateful. At the annual Miscast, which is also a gala for the Off-Broadway company, Broadway performers sing songs from shows they would not be cast in for a variety of reasons. Above, see Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford duet in the title song from Phantom of the Opera, from Miscast 2023.

Wait, you may wonder, how is that miscast? Well, it's because Ashford is singing the Phantom parts and Groban is singing the Christine part. There's some lyric flubbing which we'll forgive because of their complete commitment to the bit. The two recently starred opposite each other in the 2023 Sweeney Todd revival.
