Back at City Center after last fall’s Twyla Now presentation, Tony-winning choreographer Twyla Tharp revisits two of her iconic works: In the Upper Room and Nine Sinatra Songs.
In the rehearsal studio, Kaitlyn Gilliland and Lloyd Knight give Playbill a sneak peek of their upcoming performances. Watch the artists in the video above.
The program will be seen at New York City Center starting October 19 and continuing through October 23.
Set to a score by Philip Glass, In the Upper Room showcases the dancer's athleticism. Moving through a mist-shrouded stage in pointe shoes and sneakers, performers propel themselves relentlessly toward the piece’s explosive finale.
Nine Sinatra Songs takes its suave, jazzy style from classic Ol’ Blue Eyes standards to conjure love stories of ardent passion and world weariness alike, exemplifying Tharp’s ability to showcase the individual personalities and talents of her dancers.
