In honor of National Diabetes Month, short film Type 1, which was co-directed by Broadway's Anthony Rapp and Ben Samuels, has been made available to stream on YouTube. You can watch the film in full below.
Written by Noah Averbach-Katz and starring Averbach-Katz and Mary Wiseman, the film explores the barriers to insulin access put in place for diabetics through a Type 1 diabetic and his wife during their desperate search for insulin.
The film is presented in partnership with T1 International, an organization fighting against pharmaceutical companies that have put up extreme financial barriers between diabetics and their life saving medication. The price placed on insulin by its manufacturers often causes diabetics to ration their medication, which frequently leads to their death.
Type 1 is the film directorial debut of Rapp, the original Mark in RENT and current star of Star Trek: Discovery.
