Tony and Emmy winner Billy Porter will be featured in the second season of Apple TV's Dear..., which premieres March 4. Watch a sneak peek of the stage and screen star's episode above.
In the clip, Porter reads a heartfelt letter from a fan about his Tony-winning performance in Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein's Kinky Boots.
Porter reads, "If I hadn't heard your voice when I was young, and if I hadn't met you that night in Chicago, my life would look completely different." The letter was submitted by Drew Shade, the founder of Broadway Black, an outlet dedicated to showcasing Black theatre artists.
In addition to Kinky Boots, Porter starred in the original cast of Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, and productions of White Rabbit Red Rabbit, Angels in America, Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Miss Saigon, Five Guys Named Joe, and Smokey Joe's Cafe.
Directed by Emmy winner R.J. Culter, Dear… casts a spotlight on public figures and their impact on culture and society, told through readings of letters from their fans. In addition to Porter, this season will showcase Broadway vets Viola Davis (Fences) and Jane Fonda (33 Variations), as well as the late André Leon Talley, Malala Yousafzai, Ava DuVernay, Sandra Oh, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Laird Hamilton.
Executive producers for the docuseries include Cutler, Jane Cha Cutler, Todd Lubin, Jay Peterson, and Donny Jackson.
