Carol Burnett recently appeared on two TV talk shows to promote her latest book, I’m Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem and Fun in the Sandbox, which was released September 13 by Crown Publishing.
Unlike her previous two memoirs—One More Time published in 1986 and This Time Together published in 2010—I’m Such Good Company hones in on the conception and eventual hit status of The Carol Burnett Show. The show won 25 Emmys throughout its 11-year run.
The book reveals how the show almost didn’t air, stories from guest stars like Lucille Ball, Gloria Swanson and Betty White, behind-the-scenes looks with costume designers and cameramen, plus Burnett’s favorite sketches and characters.
On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Fallon screened a clip of Burnett’s comedic prowess: When she was filming a sketch with the Jackson Five and an earthquake hit and Burnett didn’t flinch—she even ad-libbed a joke.
The 83-year-old then played a round of “The Whisper Challenge” with Fallon. Only Burnett could make something so simple so hilarious.
On LIVE with Kelly, Burnett reminisced with Kelly Rippa and her co-host for the day, Michael Weatherly. Burnett talked about some of her favorite characters, including Mrs. Wiggins and the infamous Wiggins Walk.
