Happy birthday, Kristin Chenoweth! The Tony-winning Broadway star celebrated her big day July 24 in the best way possible for a theatrical diva: onstage after taking her bow, starring in the world premiere musical The Queen of Versailles. Currently playing a Broadway-aimed run at Boston's Colonial Theatre, the show reunites Chenoweth with her Wicked songwriter, Stephen Schwartz.
And Schwartz was on hand to help mark his star's birthday. In a video she posted to Instagram, a visibly moved Chenoweth accepts a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the composer-lyricist before giving the audience a look at her days on the pageant circuit as they all sing her "Happy Birthday." See her follow that up by taking a big chomp out of her birthday cake in the video below.
Chenoweth stars as socialite Jacqueline "Jackie" Siegel, along with F. Murray Abraham as David Siegel. The musical is adapted from the 2012 documentary of the same name, which follows the couple's endeavor to build the largest private home in the country in Orlando, Florida, only for the 2008 recession to dampen their dreams and lavish lifestyle.
Lindsey Ferrentino (Ugly Lies the Bone, Amy and the Orphans) penned the book from Lauren Greenfield's film, and Tony winner Michael Arden (Parade, Once on This Island) is directing.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
