Ars Nova is set to kick off its season Off-Broadway at Greenwich House October 6 with the world premiere of Hound Dog, a new play co-presented by Ars Nova and PlayCo.
Written by Melis Aker and featuring music and lyrics by Aker & the Lazours, the work is described as a "cross-cultural jam-session-meets-play," centering on a young musician who returns from abroad to her Turkish hometown to look after her widowed father. The cast will include Olivia AbiAssi, Ashley Baier, Ellena Eshraghi, Mel Hsu, Matt Magnussun, Sahar Milani, Laith Nakli, Jonathan Raviv, and Maya Sharpe.
Machel Ross is directing, leading a creative team that includes music director and sound designer Avi Amon, set designer Frank J. Oliva, costume designer Qween Jean, lighting designer Tuçe Yasak, prop designer Patricia Marjorie, and wig designer Tommy Kurzman. Orchestrations are by Avi Amon, Daniel Lazour, and the Hound Dog band, and casting is by Destiny Lilly of The Telsey Office. Bryan Bauer is production stage manager, with Caren Celine Morris serving as assistant stage manager.
"Only in Time" features video creative direction and concept by Fernando Masterson and Diego González, with video by Fly's Eye Films, and direction and cinematography by Matt Bockelman.
