Video Watch: The Creators of Theater Camp on Finding the Comedy in Teaching Theatre Kids

Co-written by the film's stars Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, and Molly Gordon and director Nick Lieberman, the film digitally releases September 14.

Ben Platt and Noah Galvin's mockumentary Theater Camp hits streamer Hulu September 14, along with becoming available for digital purchase via Apple TV, Prime Video, and more. Go behind the scenes to hear from the film's creators how they found the comedic pulse of the theatrical movie above.

Dear Evan Hansen stars (and fiancés) Platt and Galvin created the film along with Molly Gordon (Booksmart, The Bear) and Nick Lieberman, inspired by Galvin's 2020 short film of the same name. Theater Camp premiered at Sundance Film Festival, where it was picked up for distribution by Searchlight Pictures. It released theatrically July 14. Read the reviews here.

The film follows the eccentric staff of a rundown theatre camp in upstate New York as they come together with a less-than-theatrically-inclined member of the camp family to keep the program going following the sudden absence of the beloved founder.

Platt, Gordon, and Galvin star in the project, alongside Amy Sedaris, Alan S. Kim, Patti Harrison, Owen Thiele, Jimmy Tatro, Ayo Edebiri, Caroline Aaron, and Nathan Lee Graham. The project is the directorial debut of Gordon and Lieberman.

Erik Feig, Samie Kim Falvey, and Julia Hammer produce for Picturestart, in partnership with Maria Zuckerman and Ryan Heller for Topic Studios. Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, Alex Brown, and Mary Bundy for Gloria Sanchez Productions are also a part of the production team.
