The New York-bound productions of War Paint and Ride the Cyclone, nominated in five and four categories, respectively, at the 2016 Jeff Awards, each took home only one award at the ceremony celebrating the best in Chicago Theatre.

Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, who played opposite each other in the new musical War Paint at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, both received nominations for Best Actress in a Principal Role in a Musical. However, Donica Lynn beat out the two-time Tony-winning actors for her performance in Dreamgirls at Porchlight Music Theatre.

The world-premiere musical War Paint, by librettist Doug Wright, composer Scott Frankel, lyricist Michael Korie, choreographer Christopher Gattelli, and director Michael Greif, received a total of five nominations. It took home the Jeff for Best Costume Design (Large) for Catherine Zuber.

The production was also nominated for Best Musical Production (Large) against Man of La Mancha at Marriott Theatre, Oklahoma! at Paramount Theatre, Ride the Cyclone at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and West Side Story at Paramount Theatre. West Side Story took home the top honor.

Ride the Cyclone took home the award for Best Director (Musical) for Rachel Rockwell.
