News World Premiere of Dead Poets Society Opens Tonight The new play, starring Jason Sudeikis, is based on the beloved 1989 film and is directed by Tony winner John Doyle.

The world premiere of Dead Poets Society officially opens November 17 at the Classic Stage Company with Jason Sudeikis starring as professor John Keating. The new play is based on the beloved 1989 film, adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Schulman from his own screenplay. Tony winner John Doyle directs.

Hollywood actor Sudeikis makes his Off-Broadway debut in the role—made famous by Robin Williams in the film—of an unconventional teacher at an all-boys preparatory school. He is joined by Francesca Carpanini as Chris, David Garrison as Mr. Nolan, William Hochman as Knox Overstreet, Cody Kostro as Charlie Dalton, Yaron Lotan as Richard Cameron, Thomas Mann as Neil Perry, Zane Pais as Todd Anderson, Stephen Barker Turner as Mr. Perry, and Bubba Weiler as Steven Meeks. Performances began October 27.

Scenic design is by Scott Pask, with costume design by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, and sound design by Matt Stine.
