Zoe Lister-Jones' 2017 film Band Aid, about a couple who turn their fights into song in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage, is being adapted into a stage musical. MCC Theater will present a one-night-only reading of the show at its upcoming PlayLabs readings, alongside a reading of David Zheng's new play Ching Chong Maka Hiya.

Both readings will be held at the Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater at The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space, and will be followed by a post-show reception and a chance to discuss with the artists. Click here for tickets and more information.

Kicking off the spring series April 29 at 7 PM will be Zheng's play about a group of young adults struggling to find a better life within a system built on racism and power. In Ching Chong Maka Hiya, Jeremy, a Chinese boy from the Bronx, finds himself in jail under the supervision of the facility’s newest correctional officers—his close childhood friends. The reading will be directed by Zhailon Levingston.

On May 20, Tony-nominated director Leigh Silverman directs Lister-Jones' stage adaptation of Band Aid. The story follows an L.A. couple who start a garage band and perform songs inspired by their relationship. The musical features music by Zoe Lister-Jones (Seminar, New Girl) and Kyle Forester, and musical arrangements and additional music by Zoe Sarnak. The reading will be at 7 PM.

The film Band Aid was written, directed by, and starred Lister-Jones, with a cast that also featured Adam Pally, Ravi Patel, and Brooklyn Decker.
