Highlights From The Glass Menagerie Starring Cherry Jones and Zachary Quinto
Tony Award winner Cherry Jones, Tony nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger and Zachary Quinto are a family adrift in a sea of memory in the Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' acclaimed 1945 drama The Glass Menagerie, now playing at the Booth Theatre. Tony Award-winning director John Tiffany and Tony-winning designer Bob Crowley set Williams' memory play about an overbearing mother and her fragile daughter, inspired by the playwright's own mother and sister, over a pool of reflective black liquid that surrounds the Wingfield apartment. Brian Stokes Mitchell Performs From Ahrens and Flaherty Retrospective Nice Fighting You
Brian Stokes Mitchell joined songwriting team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty for a preview of their upcoming 54 Below show Nice Fighting You, a retrospective of the duo's 30-year career. Featuring songs from every musical they have written, the six performances will feature a revolving list of guests — including the likes of Stephanie J. Block, Liz Callaway, Marin Mazzie, Bobby Steggert and LaChanze — that were the original performers of many of the featured tunes. Here, Mitchell runs through "Wheels of a Dream" from Ragtime and "I Was Here" from The Glorious Ones. For tickets and info, visit 54below.com.
We Will Rock You, Featuring the Hits of Queen, Ready to Roll Out U.S. Tour
We Will Rock You — the musical fueled by the classic hits of British rock band Queen — tells the tale of a dystopian future where rock music has been outlawed and the young heroes out to save society from the blandness of corporate music. The show, in its 11th year at London's Dominion Theatre, starts a U.S. tour on Oct. 15 in Baltimore, MD. Playbill checked in on a New York City rehearsal and got a performance sample including "Under Pressure and "We Will Rock You," while the cast and director Ben Elton (who also wrote the book) chatted about the show and the timeless music. In Studio with the Cast Recording of The Last Five Years: Part Two
The Last Five Years’ creator Jason Robert Brown felt it was important to honor the revival of the Off-Broadway classic with a recording of its own that would allow the talents of Betsy Wolfe and Adam Kantor to shine through. Here, Kantor performs “Shiksa Goddess” and Brown chats with Playbill about the unique energy that Wolfe and Kantor bring to the show.
