DESCRIPTION

As a Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor, this person’s primary responsibilities are academic. These responsibilities include: teach three courses per semester in all areas of theatre arts; some combination of Introduction to Theatre, Play Production, Stagecraft I & II, or Visual Concepts for the Stage; Coordinate primary learning activities of theatre courses with department productions, as per course descriptions; Supervise and lead students during scheduled lab hours; Teach, coach, and mobilize students, including 2-3 work-study students in the construction of scenery and props, light design, sound design, and costume coordination.
As the Technical Director for the theatre program this person will be responsible for the facilitation of all technical elements in our theatre season, coordination of rentals and on-campus events in our theatre venues with the assistance of staff from the Events and Catering office. The duties of the technical director includes: Collaborate with the Artistic Director during the season selection process; consult and work collaboratively with faculty, university staff, and event sponsors; Work within the means of a centralized and shared schedule/calendar for the Beier and Small auditoriums as well as surrounding shops and lab spaces; Keep an organized and clean facility including auditoriums and shop spaces; Balance the needs of all academic, university, and community events that utilize our venues; Provide mentorship to theatre students who undertake design assignments for our theatre season; Prioritize safety and the correct utilization of all hardware and equipment; Upkeep and maintain our equipment inventory; Purchase any needed materials and equipment while assisting the Artistic Director in keeping an accurate ledger.
Since 2005, the University of Montana Western has been the only publicly funded, four-year baccalaureate degree granting university to operate fully on a block schedule. Each semester, students enroll in a full-time load of four classes that they take once at a time for three hours per day for 18 days. Experiential learning, in the sense that it is the authentic practice of a given academic discipline, is emphasized at UMW.

Qualifications
Requirements:
The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
· MFA or a Terminal Degree in Technical Theatre, or a related area of study
Preferred:
· Ability to teach a K-12 drama methods course
· Ability to design and teach online courses
· Have general knowledge of all theatre design areas with specialization in at least two design modalities. (e.g scenic design, costume design, sound design, light design, prop design, etc.)
· Professional experience in regional theater, film, or television
