WHAT TO PREPARE
Auditionees should prepare two 16-bar cuts: one up-tempo, and one ballad. At least one of these must be in mid-century american musical theater style similar to the songs in Guys and Dolls. (Examples of [but not limited to] other shows that might have a similar style: Camelot, My Fair Lady, Bye Bye Birdie, Damn Yankees, Anything Goes, Wonderful Town, The Music Man, South Pacific, Gypsy, Kiss Me Kate, Hello Dolly, The King and I, Sound of Music, etc.) Please bring sheet music in a binder for the accompanist, with your cuts clearly marked. The acting segment of auditions will be by cold reading only. No Monologues will be seen at this audition. Auditionees should also prepare for and dress appropriately for a dance audition unless you are only interested in the Save-A-Soul Mission Band characters.

ABOUT THE PLAY
Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler, Nathan Detroit, tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for fourteen years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, and Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown, as a result. Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong.
CHARACTERS
Sarah Brown (F - Any Ethnicity - 20-35 - B3-G5 - Lead) A pretty, bright-eyed woman who serves as Sergeant of the local Mission. She fully believes in her worthy cause and wishes to convert the gambling sinners to saints. Falls unexpectedly in love with Sky along the way. She is prudish and uptight, but eventually lets go. Should be able to navigate legit soprano as well as a strong belt, and some dancing.
Adelaide (F/TransF/Drag - Any Ethnicity - 32-45 - A3-E5 - Lead) Nathan's fiancé and a lead performer at the Hot Box nightclub. She loves Nathan more than anything in the world and desperately wants to get married. Pretty, outspoken, stubborn. Strong belt is desired, we are looking for a fresh take on this character as opposed to a carbong copy of the Lena Lamont/Audrey style that has been traditionally played. Heavy dancing burlesque role.
Sky Masterson (M/TransM - Any Ethnicity - 30-45 - B3-E5 - Lead) A high-stakes gambler whose luck never seems to run out, and a wild card who surprises himself when he falls in love with the unlikeliest of women. Suave, smart, handsome. Choreographability required.
Nathan Detroit (M/TransM - Any Ethnicity - 30-45 - D4-F5 - Lead) A good-hearted gambler and craps game organizer who could never hit the bigtime. He loves Adelaide, but cannot quit his gambling ways. A broke schemer with unwitting ways. Comedic wit and timing is essential fo rthis role. Choreographability required.
Benny Southstreet (Any Gender - Any Ethnicity - 25-45 - D4-G5 - Supporting Lead) Nathan's right-hand man and a gambler himself. Smart, slick, always moving and shaking, but with what he thinks are Nathan's best interest at heart. Choreographability required.
Nicely Nicely Johnson (M/TransM - Any Ethnicity - 25-45 - D4-B5 - Supporting Lead) Just like his name suggests, he is the nicest and cheeriest of the gambling crooks. High-spirited and a bit naïve, but sincere and genuine. Nathan's loyal friend and lackey. Choreographability required.
Arvide Abernathy (Any Gender - Any Ethnicity - 55+ - D4-F5 - Supporting Lead) The bass drum and cymbal player in the Mission band, Sarah's loving grandparent. Wise and sweet, wants nothing but the best for her. Minimal Dancing, may be cast in other ensemble roles.
Big Jule (Any Gender - Any Ethnicity - 25-45 - F3-G5 - Supporting Lead) A big time craps player from Chicago who uses a gun and his own pair of rigged dice to bully his way into never losing. Intimidating. Choreographability required.
General Cartwright (F/TransF/Drag - Any Ethnicity - 55+ - Featured) Regional representative of the Salvation Army. Powerful, matronly, no-nonsense with a formidable presence and, it transpires, a sense of humor. Minimal Dancing, ensemble singing, may be cast in other ensemble roles.

Lt. Brannigan (Any Gender - Any Ethnicity - 40-60 - Featured) A New York police officer who is on to Nathan's illegal craps games and is dead-set on catching him. A tough, no-nonsense character. No Dancing, non-singing, may be cast as other ensemble roles.
