BREAKDOWN
SEXUAL MISCONDUCT OF THE MIDDLE CLASSES & CREDITORS
SEEKING:
NOTE: All roles are currently cast, seeking understudies.
ANNIE: Female. E20s. Annie is intelligent, introspective, and deeply affected by Jon’s work. She
appears to be both admiring and uncertain around him, oscillating between confidence and
awkwardness. Annie is drawn to intellectualism and seeks connection.
GUSTAV: Male. E50s. A calculating, and bitter man, Gustav is Tekla’s ex-husband. Under the guise of offering guidance, he systematically dismantles Adi’s confidence, feeding his paranoia and resentment toward Tekla. Motivated by revenge and control, Gustav is coldly intellectual, wielding psychological manipulation as his weapon of choice.
TEKLA: Female. L40s. A charismatic and independent woman, Tekla is an intelligent and
experienced writer who exudes confidence and charm. She enjoys attention, particularly from men, and is perceived by others (especially Gustav) as flirtatious and dominant in her marriage to Adi. Though she genuinely cares for Adolf, she is unaware of the extent of his insecurities.
ADI: Male, Black, L20s-e30s. A young, sensitive, and insecure artist, Adi is deeply in love with his
wife, Tekla, but plagued by self-doubt and emotional fragility. He is easily manipulated due to his lack of confidence and his obsessive need for validation, especially from his mentor, Gustav.
