DESCRIPTION

Northern Stage, a LORT-D 240-seat regional theater in White River Junction, VT, seeks an experienced Sound Engineer to join our upcoming production of Disney’s Beauty And The Beast. Northern Stage produces a mainstage season, an education season, a New Works festival, and 4-6 other events year-round. This position reports directly to the Production Manager and Technical Director and works closely with the Sound Designer, Director, and other production department heads to execute the approved designs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Manage the daily operations within the Sound Department including leading the installation, maintenance, and strike of all sound elements for this production.
- Communicate inventory availability and space limitations to designers during the design process. Interpret and budget designs when submitted.
- Work with the Sound Designer, Technical Director, and Production Manager to keep design on budget and schedule.
- Coordinate any necessary show-specific rentals, including their transportation.
- Responsible for creation and maintenance of practical sound needs.
- Collaborate with the Electrics department regarding any video or lighting-related needs that interface with Sound via show control.
- Program and operate QLab and the audio console for run of production
- Coordinate any overhire crew necessary with the Production & General Management Teams.
- Supervise and train an A2 when necessary for production.
- Attend scheduled production and staff meetings.
- Coordinate with Stage Management to provide rehearsal sound support as requested.
- Purchase, maintain and repair sound inventory and manage renting/borrowing relationships with neighboring organizations.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the amp room and sound storage spaces.
- Support other production departments as needed.

Qualifications:

- Three or more years of experience in professional theatrical sound engineering and design. A combination of education and professional experience will be considered.
- Ability to mix musicals with up to 26 wireless microphones and a 10-piece orchestra.
- Proficiency programming sound in QLab and the ability to run a Yamaha CL5.
- In depth knowledge of signal flow, RF coordination, wireless microphone prep/maintenance, and the use of both digital and analog consoles.
- Proven ability to evaluate, budget, and execute designer drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google Suite. Experience with CAD, Vectorwroks, Pro Tools, & Logic Pro a plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organization skills.
- Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail. Experience managing and adhering to budgets.
- Thorough knowledge of theatrical safety conventions, OSHA regulations, and fire codes.
- Knowledge of theatrical rigging standards and safety.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to approach challenges collaboratively.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a box truck.
- Comfortable working at heights in excess of 20 feet in a lift and on a tension mesh grid.
- Ability to safely lift 75 lbs.
- BA or BFA in technical theater a plus.


Job Type: Full time, with some nights and weekends required
Contract Dates: 10/28/2024 - 1/1/2025
Compensation: $900 per week, paid bi weekly.
Housing and Travel: to be provided by Northern Stage.
