In December 2003, The New York Times and other media erroneously reported her death.

Longtime friend Ann Berlin told the Times of Ms. Sergava's recent passing.

According to the paper, Ms. Sergava was born in Tiflis (now Tblisi) in Georgia. She and her family fled to Russia around the time of the Revolution and eventually settled in London, where she studied theatre and dance.

After moving to New York, she danced with ballet troupes and moved into the Broadway arena, performing the all-dance role of "Dream Laurey" in the groundbreaking Oklahoma!, 1943-47. She was a good friend of choreographer Agnes de Mille.

She also appeared in the musical, Look Ma, I'm Dancing, with choreography by Jerome Robbins, and in the Theater de Lys staging of The Threepenny Opera (she took over the role of Jenny, originated in the famous Off-Broadway run by Lotte Lenya).

According to the New York Times, she also appeared in plays and taught drama at HB Studios in New York for more than 30 years.

Her husband, Bernard Sznycer, predeceased her in 1970.
