MerryGoRound, the Sherman Brothers' Musical, Still Hoping to Spin on Broadway
Money continues to be raised for the long-gestating, Broadway-aimed musical MerryGoRound, with songs by the Academy Award-winning team of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, lead producer Jack Stein told Playbill.com on June 7. A new Broadway target of spring 2013 is being eyed for the $13 million show, $9 million of which has been raised, Stein said.

Ribeiro and Butler to Star in Encores!' Golden Boy March 21-24
Alfonso Ribeiro, who was once Broadway's The Tap Dance Kid, will play the lead of Joe Wellington in the Encores!' concert presentation of Charles Strouse and Lee Adams' Golden Boy, confirmed sources close to the production. Dreyfuss, Buscemi, Vereen Among The Exonerated, Nov. 6 & 13 at NYC's 45 Bleecker
Interviews with exonerated death row inmates form the basis for Jessica Blank and Eric Jensen’s The Exonerated, which opened Oct. 30 at The Culture Project at 45 Bleecker. The Exonerated will run twice more, on successive Mondays, Nov. 6 and 13 at The Culture Project. Plans exist for the play to be fully developed and relaunched in the Spring of 2001 by producer Allen Buchman, the playwrights said.

Second Stage Adds Once Around the City to 2000-01 Schedule
The final show of Off-Broadway's Second Stage season will be Once Around the City, a new musical by Willie and Robert Reale. The production -- to be directed by Mark Linn-Baker (who will be acting artistic director of the theatre for six months beginning in January 2001) and choreographed by Jennifer Muller -- will begin previews June 12, 2001.

OB's Jitney to Leave Second Stage Sept. 10; Hit Union Sq. Sept. 19
It's official. The much-acclaimed Second Stage Theatre production of August Wilson's Jitney will transfer to a larger Off-Broadway house. The show, which was scheduled to run to Sept. 3 at Second Stage, will add an extra week there and close Sept. 10, followed by a move to the Union Square Theatre, with performances starting again Sept. 19.

Linn-Baker to Be Acting Artistic Director of Second Stage for Half Season
He's no Perfect Stranger to Second Stage Theatre. Actor Mark Linn-Baker, best known for his years on TV's "Perfect Strangers" and work in filmdom's "My Favorite Year" will have a behind-the-scenes role Off Broadway this season. He's been tapped by Second Stage artistic director Carole Rothman to oversee the company while she takes a half-year vacation, starting January 2001.

Off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre, currently enjoying its most universally acclaimed production in years, August Wilson's Jitney, will turn to three other veteran dramatists for its 2000-01 season. A brochure available at the theatre notes that revivals of Edward Albee's Tiny Alice and Beth Henley's Pulitzer-winning Crimes of the Heart are on the schedule (subject to change), as is Cellini, a new play by John Patrick Shanley. Not unexpectedly, August Wilson’s Jitney has been extended at Off Broadway’s Second Stage Theatre. The production, which received unanimously strong reviews and has already won a special, non competitive award from the Drama Desk for Outstanding Ensemble Performance, was to run through May 21 but will now play through July 16. The show started previews April 8 and opened April 25.
