Radio City Music Hall

Radio City Music Hall opened on December 27, 1932, under the ownership of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Though Rockefeller originally envisioned the site as a new home for the Metropolitan Opera, the plans fell through following the stock market crash of 1929, and the theatre began its life hosting variety shows. The venue takes its name from one of its first tenants, the Radio Corporation of America. Throughout its history, Radio City Music Hall has hosted movie premieres, concerts and award shows, but perhaps its most lasting contribution are the Rockettes (originally the Roxyettes after producer Samuel "Roxy" Rothafel) who star in the annual Christmas Spectacular.
