Eight times a week in Steve Martin and Edie Brickell’s Bright Star, the orchestra lays down a bluegrass score chock full of joy, longing, love and heartbreak. Hannah Elless, who plays Margo Crawford in the show, wanted in on the action so she joined Playbill at NYC’s SubCulture to shoot this exclusive music video for the song “Asheville.” An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Elless took the adage, “If you want something done right, do it yourself,” quite literally—she performs on guitar, piano, mandolin, tambourine and kick drum as well as adding vocals, handclaps and providing the arrangement for the tune. With the help of some video magic, she literally becomes a one-woman band!
