The Oscar nominee is leaving her role on the morning program "to pursue full time her love for acting," according to ABC News. Her last show will be taped Aug. 6.
Bill Wolff, the executive producer of "The View," issued an email to his staff that read, "Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive.… And beyond being an enormously talented performer, Rosie is a dedicated advocate who has brought passion and insight to the panel every day."
Perez joined "The View" in September 2014 along with another Rosie, Broadway favorite Rosie O'Donnell, and MSNBC analyst Nicole Wallace. O'Donnell departed the show for a second time earlier in the season, saying she wanted to focus on her family.
Wolff also said in his email that Perez "will always be a part of 'The View' family, and we will welcome her back as a guest anytime to catch up."
Tony winner Whoopi Goldberg moderates the program, which is the brainchild of news legend Barbara Walters.
