The Drama League is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Directors Project, which include several different fellowship, residency, and assistantship opportunities.
The League has also revealed that Tony Award nominee Whitney White (Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, The Last Five Years), Tatyana Marie-Carlo (La Broa', Vámonos), and Schele Williams (The Notebook, The Wiz) will serve as mentors to assistant directors through the 2025 Irene Gandy Directing Assistantships, one of the programs under the Directors Project.
Additional programs that are now open for application include the FutureNow Directing Fellowships with Chautauqua Theater Company and TheaterWorksUSA; the Rose Directing Fellowship with London’s Rose Theatre; and the Beatrice Terry Directing Residency and the Next Stage Directing Residency, both partnerships with New York Stage And Film.
New York City Center, with the assistance of The Drama League, has also announced the selection of Drama League alumnus Nathaniel P. Claridad as their 2024 Directing Fellow. Claridad will assist on four productions this season, working with Artistic Director Lear deBessonet (Once Upon A Mattress) on Ragtime, Teddy Bergman (K-Pop) on Urinetown, Victoria Clark (Kimberly Akimbo) on Love Life, and Saheem Ali (Fat Ham) on The Wild Party.
Programs of the Directors Project which will not be accepting applications in 2025 include the TV/Film Directing Fellowship, as some fellows were affected by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike; the Drama League Stage Directing Fellowships, and The Drama League Film Fund, which are each two-year programs whose most recent recipients were announced last May.
The League has also expanded its Director Services programs, which include Studio Space, an affordable rehearsal space offering; Director Referrals, which allows producers and leaders to identify directors for future projects nationwide; Pathway Chats, a career strategy service for directors seeking counsel, guidance, and coaching; and The Gatherings, which are community building opportunities for directors to share resources, expand networks, and enhance skills.
