Ariana DeBose, Will Smith, and Jessica Chastain brought home awards for their on-screen work at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards February 27.

DeBose won Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for her portrayal of Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, the role for which she's currently an Academy Award nominee as well. The Hamilton and Summer: A Donna Summer Musical actor was up against Caitriona Balfe in Belfast, Tony nominee Cate Blanchett in Nightmare Alley, Kirsten Dunst in The Power of the Dog, and upcoming MacBeth actor Ruth Negga in Passing.

Smith, last seen in the theatre scene as a co-producer of the Broadway musical Fela!, won Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture for playing the father of tennis champs Serena and Venus Williams in King Richard. Smith's contenders were Javier Bardem in Being the Ricardos, Olivier nominee Benedict Cumberbatch in The Power of the Dog, and Tony winners Andrew Garfield and Denzel Washington for their work in Tick, Tick... Boom! and The Tragedy of Macbeth, respectively.

Chastain, a Broadway and West End alum, won Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture for her role as the title character in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. She won against an all-star list of nominees including Olivia Colman in The Lost Daughter, singer Lady Gaga in House of Gucci, Jennifer Hudson in Respect, and Nicole Kidman in Being the Ricardos.
