In celebration of the return of Angels in America to Broadway and the 25th anniversary of the production, director Isaac Butler and Slate writer Dan Kois have expanded upon their much-buzzed-about Slate oral history of the Pulitzer-winning drama and turned it into the book The World Only Spins Forward: The Ascent of Angels in America. The tome hits bookshelves February 13.

The book features commentary from the slew of actors who have taken on the epic play, including Meryl Streep, Nathan Lane, Stephen Spinella, Mary-Louise Parker, Marcia Gay Harden, directors, producers, crew members, and playwright Tony Kushner. The World Only Spins Forward explores the work’s origins, its onstage and backstage struggles, and the debates over artistic choices. Butler and Kois launch a book tour in February to present chapter readings and discussions with actors, journalists, and cultural commentaries across the U.S.
