The Broadway League's Black to Broadway initiative has announced the 2024 return of Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth, held June 19 at 11:00 AM in Times Square. The annual concert features an entirely Black cast of Broadway actors, and is now in its fourth year.
Michael James Scott, who currently stars as the Genie in Broadway's Aladdin, will host the event for the second consecutive year.
Cast members from productions including A Beautiful Noise, Aladdin, & Juliet, Back to the Future, Cabaret, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hell's Kitchen, Illinoise, The Lion King, MJ, Moulin Rouge!, The Notebook, Suffs, Water for Elephants, The Who's Tommy, Wicked, and The Wiz are set to perform; along with youth performers from Young Gifted and Broadway. Specific performers will be announced at a later date.
The 2024 Juneteenth Legacy Award will be presented to two-time Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad. Rashad's extensive list of credits includes her Tony-winning performances in A Raisin in the Sun and Skeleton Crew, as well as original Broadway productions of The Wiz and Dreamgirls. Rashad is also currently Tony nominated as a producer for Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch, which is up for Best Revival.
