The Outsiders is reaping the benefits of that Best Musical Tony win. Even though the show is coming up short of the box-office performance of fellow Best Musical nominee Hell's Kitchen (the fourth highest-grossing show on the boards last week), The Outsiders has been steadily building an audience and moving up in the ranks. The musical was the seventh highest-grossing of all 25 currently running shows last week, and broke a house box-office record at the Jacobs Theatre for the sixth straight week.

This performance seems to be driven mostly by producers' steadily raising ticket prices. The show has been sold out or dangerously close to sold out for weeks, but the average ticket price has been reliably increasing week after week, landing at $174.07 most recently. Ironically, Hell's Kitchen pulled a lower average ticket price of $142.28, proving how powerful the 433 additional seats the Alicia Keys musical has at the Shubert can be.

The musical's success was actually part of an excellent week on Broadway overall. Cumulative grosses fell by less than half of a percentage point, even though recent closures left ticket buyers with two (or 7.4%) less shows to see. Almost 96% of seats were filled, with theatregoers paying an average of $130 for their tickets.

A large portion of that success was all thanks to Moulin Rouge! The Musical, which welcomed its Tony-winning original leading man Aaron Tveit and pop star Joanna "JoJo" Levesque back to the company last week. Apparently audiences were into it, with the box office seeing an increase of more than $300,000 compared to the week prior.

Also proving to be a solid summer hit is Cole Escola's Oh, Mary! The play joined The $1 Million Club for the second straight week. Could another extension take the comedy into the holiday season? It certainly seems possible!
