PBS' Great Performances will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special concert featuring performances from some of Broadway's best. To be filmed March 23 at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater, Great Performances at 50: Celebrating Broadway's Best will air on PBS stations beginning May 12 at 9 PM (check local listings) along with streaming via the PBS app and on PBS.org.

The all-star line-up includes André De Shields, Robyn Hurder, Jane Krakowski, Norm Lewis, Donna McKechnie, Betty Buckley, Jessie Mueller, Chita Rivera,  and Vanessa Williams. The evening will be staged by Warren Carlyle with Patrick Vaccariello serving as music director. The concert is written by Dave Boone.

“Our mission has always been to provide access to world-class performing arts to Americans nationwide,” says Executive Producer David Horn, who has been with the series since 1979. “We are proud of what the series has achieved these past 50 years, and we look forward to continuing to delight and entertain audiences for many more.”

Originally launched as Theatre in America, Great Performances has long been one of the premiere television destinations for filmed theatrical performances. Past broadcasts have included the 1979 Broadway revival of The Most Happy Fella, the 1984 revival of You Can't Take It With You, the original production of Sweeney Todd filmed during its first national tour, Paper Mill Playhouse's 1989 revival of Show Boat, and a stage capture of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, among any others.

The concert is part of the series' 2023 season and will be followed May 19 by Richard III, filmed last year at the Public Theater's Free Shakespeare in the Park with Danai Gurira in the title role. To see the series' full schedule, visit PBS.org.
