Curve Will Present New Staging of My Fair Lady

Following its recent staging of Evita, Leicester's Curve has announced it will present a new Made at Curve production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s classic musical My Fair Lady during the holiday season.

Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster will helm the production, which will run November 23, 2024-January 4, 2025. Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.

My Fair Lady is based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and features a book and lyrics by Lerner and music by Loewe. The original Broadway production opened March 15, 1956, ran for over six years and won nine Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews opened the Broadway staging; an Oscar-winning 1964 film adaptation starred Harrison and Audrey Hepburn.

The score contains such standards as "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live," "Wouldn't It Be Loverly?," and "Get Me to the Church on Time."

Curve Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Foster said in a joint statement, “Lerner and Loewe’s music and lyrics, matched with the words and imaginative brio of George Bernard Shaw make My Fair Lady one of the finest musicals from the traditional canon.

“It’s a show we’ve wanted to present at Curve for many years and we are thrilled Christmas ‘24 will be made magical by Shaw’s glittering crew of eccentric characters and some of the most wonderful songs ever written for a musical comedy. And at the center of it all is Eliza Doolittle, surely one of the most inspiring characters ever to have leapt from the imagination of a writer. It’s the perfect Curve Christmas show and we look forward to audiences being enchanted and electrified by this timeless story.”

Tickets will go on sale to Curve Friends February 7, Curve Supporters February 8, Curve Members February 9, and the general public February 14.
