Video Exclusive: Watch Joy Woods Deliver Emotional 'Somewhere That's Green,' Accompanied by Composer Alan Menken

Woods, currently starring as Audrey in the hit Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors, recently joined Menken in his recording studio.

Joy Woods (SIX: The Musical, The Notebook), who returned to Skid Row as Audrey May 2 in the hit Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors, was recently invited by the show's Oscar-winning composer, Alan Menken, to record Audrey's first solo, "Somewhere That's Green."

Watch Woods, accompanied by Menken, pour out her voice and heart in her rendition of the Little Shop classic in Menken's recording studio in the video above. The recording features video production by Brandon Schwartz.

Woods, who originated the role of Chiffon in this revival, is joined by Tony winner Matt Doyle (Company, The Book of Mormon) as Seymour, Drew Gehling (Almost Famous, Waitress) as Dr. Orin Scrivello D.D.S., Brad Oscar as Mushnik, Aaron Arnell Harrington (Rent 25th anniversary tour) as The Voice of Audrey II, Tiffany Renee Thompson as Crystal, Khadija Sankoh as Chiffon, and D’Kaylah Unique Whitley as Ronnette.

Completing the company are Camryn Hampton, Weston Chandler Long, Teddy Yudain, Zakiya Baptiste, Jonothon Lyons, Noel MacNeal, Kevin Pariseau, Jeff Sears, Evan Alexander Smith, and Melissa Victor.

Go Inside Joy Woods' Opening Night in Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway

The Off-Broadway revival resumed its run September 21, 2021, after temporarily closing in March 2020 due to the pandemic.

Directed by Tony winner Michael Mayer, the revival opened in October 2019. The creative team for the Howard Ashman-Alan Menken musical also includes choreographer Ellenore Scott, scenic designer Julian Crouch, lighting designer Bradley King, costume designer Tom Broecker, sound designer Jessica Paz, puppet designer Nicholas Mahon, original puppet designer Martin P. Robinson, hair and makeup designer Tommy Kurzman, music supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger Will Van Dyke, and casting director Jim Carnahan. Puppets are by Monkey Boys Productions.

General management is by Live Wire Theatrical/Chris Aniello, and production stage management is by Sara Sahin.
