Knock at the Gate has released a teaser for their 3D audio experience The Tempest: A Surround Sound Odyssey. The audio production of William Shakespeare's play is adapted and directed by Joseph Discher. Get a first listen above.
The Tempest will be available to stream from February 16, 2024 through March 1. Audio streams will begin at 8:00 PM EST and be available for 72 hours following. The creators advise that listeners put on a pair of headphones and experience The Tempest while sitting in the dark.
The cast includes Hale Appleman (American Horror Story) as Ariel, Emily Skeggs (Fun Home) as Miranda, Joel de la Fuente (The Man in the High Castle) as Prospero, and Derek Wilson (Gen V) as Caliban. Rounding out the cast are Michael Daly, Sean Hudock, Greg Jackson, Maurice Jones, Raphael Nash Thomspon, Shane Taylor, Patrick Toon.
The production's soundscape is by Leigh Roberts. The associate sound designer is Kristina Tevdoradze, the sound editor and associate sound designer is Rider Q. Stanton, and the production coordinator is Denise Cadarelli.
Knock at the Gate will also hold two zoom talkbacks led by journalist and Shakespeare's Shadows podcast host Emily Rome. Talkbacks will be held February 16 at 10 PM EST for opening night ticket holders, and on February 24 for any ticket holders up to that point.
The production is made possible with support from former New Jersey Governor the Honorable Thomas H. Kean, the S. Dillard and Adrienne Kirby Family Philanthropic Fund, Chris D. Schmidt, David Skinner, and donors and fans who contributed to a successful Kickstarter crowdsourcing campaign earlier this year.
Knock at the Gate has been building narrative immersive audio experiences since 2020. Previous audio productions include Macbeth: A Surround Sound Experiment and Caesar: A Surround Sound Experiment. Knock at the Gate projects have raised nearly $15,000 for The Entertainment Community Fund.
