Hadestown has found a Broadway home. The new folk opera, which premiered at Off-Broadway’s New York Theatre Workshop in 2016 and currently runs at London’s National Theatre, will begin performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre (currently home to Springsteen on Broadway) March 22, 2019. Opening night is set for April 17.
Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin directs Anaïs Mitchell's folk opera, which offers a new interpretation of Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain his true love, Eurydice.
Casting for the Broadway bow will be announced at a later date. The current U.K. cast includes Patrick Page, Amber Gray, and Reeve Carney, who reprise their performances as Hades, Persephone, and Orpheus, respectively, from previous engagements of the musical. Joining them are Tony nominees Eva Noblezada and André De Shields as Eurydice and Hermes.
