Following Vice President-Elect Mike Pence’s visit to Hamilton November 18—and the curtain speech, uproar, and tweet from Donald Trump that followed—former and current members of the Hamilton family took to Twitter, responding to the President-Elect and raising their voices.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony and Pulitzer-winning author of Hamilton, who helped write the curtain speech delivered by cast member Brandon Victor Dixon, tweeted that he was proud of Dixon and the company of Hamilton for “leading with love,” and reminds his audience that we are “all welcome at the theatre.” Playbill.com has reached out to Miranda’s representative for additional comment.

Miranda’s father, Luis A. Miranda, said that he will sleep like a “well-fed baby” knowing that Hamilton gave voice to some of our country’s concerns.

Dixon replied directly to Trump’s tweets, saying that the curtain speech directed at Pence was not harassment, but rather a conversation.

Matt DeAngelis, who appeared on Broadway in Hair, tweeted that the man playing the lead role of Alexander Hamilton, Javier Muñoz, is a “proud gay, HIV+ man.” He added, “Enjoy the show performed by people you want to take rights from.” Muñoz retweeted and added, “LIVE YOUR TRUTH!”

Former cast members, such as Tony nominee Phillipa Soo and Tony Award winner Daveed Diggs, also responded to the tweets. Check out their responses below.

Additionally, people on both sides of the issue continue to tweet; the hashtags #BoycottHamilton and #NameAPenceMusical are both trending on Twitter. On Facebook, users continue to review the musical; the 1-Star rating has increased since the November 18 curtain speech.
