Harvey Fierstein visited NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his new memoir, I Was Better Last Night, and discuss the upcoming production ofFunny Girl.
The four-time Tony winner shares that he began writing his memoir because his "desk was clear" during the COVID-19 Broadway shutdown. He reminisces with Meyers about anecdotes in the book and how he "never planned on being an actor." Later in the conversation, the Hairspray star comments on the upcoming Funny Girl revival, to which Fierstein has contributed a revised book.
"We did it first in London and Sheridan Smith was wonderful. We did it in London, it was a big hit, and then it ran for a year, and then we toured. And then it was supposed to come here, but then COVID," he said.
Fierstein's late-night talk show appearance was to celebrate the release of his memoir, which includes never-before-told stories of his personal life and career. He has numerous appearances scheduled in conjunction with the book's release, which are listed here.
