"Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love, have been at war since time immemorial," begin press notes from New Georges. "When a young girl named Hillary Rodham devotes herself to Athena alone— spurning romance, make-up and attractive hairstyles—Aphrodite takes revenge, having her fall in love with a man of mythical charm and appetites: Bill Clinton."
Hillary will be presented Sept. 26 at the Five Angels Theatre at the 52nd Street Project. Directed by Julie Kramer, the revival reunites original cast members Mia Barron ("The Devil You Know") as Hillary and Darren Pettie ("Mad Men") as Bill Clinton.
"I usually hesitate around plays about such public figures," said producing artistic director Susan Bernfield in a press statement. "But Wendy's play uses surprising theatrical means to get at something deep in the Clintons we recognize. It's remarkably observant, hilarious yet compassionate, and Mia and Darren are priceless as the Clintons. My friends are still talking about it, and we couldn't resist bringing it back during Hillary's new campaign."
The show is also set to feature original cast members Heidi Armbruster ("Younger"), Victoire Charles, Jorge Cordova, Charlie Hudson III (A Raisin in the Sun) and Jenny Mercein, along with newcomer Christen Clifford.
Proceeds from Hillary will benefit New Georges, who originally workshopped the play at the Public Theater in 2007 and produced it at The Living Room Theatre in 2008, just as she was nominated for Secretary of State. The play then went on to have stagings regionally. Tickets and more information can be found online at NewGeorges.
