A new production of Mark Medoff’s Tony-winning drama Children of a Lesser God, directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon, began performances at the Berkshire Theatre Group June 22 for a run through July 22.

The play, which explores the relationship between an unorthodox speech therapist and one of his students—a young Deaf woman hesitant to integrate herself into the hearing world—co-stars Lauren Ridloff (Wonderstruck) as Sarah Norman (a role that won Phyllis Frelich a Tony Award and Marlee Matlin an Oscar) and Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Smart People) as James Leeds.

Broadway producer Hal Luftig is attached to the production, which may find a future life beyond its BTG run. In 2014 Luftig announced plans to bring Children of a Lesser God back to Broadway.
