Idina Menzel's upcoming Broadway return in Redwood will see her returning to the place she made her Broadway debut, in the iconic original company of Rent at the Nederlander Theatre. And the Tony winner is harkening back to that landmark musical as the Redwood box office opens. Menzel herself will be on hand at the Nederlander box office December 6 to draw winners for a $20 ticket lottery, that price tag returning to what Rent lottery tickets went for when the rock musical became the first-ever Broadway show to offer a ticket lottery.
Theatregoers can enter to win up to two $20 tickets for the show's first preview (January 24, 2025) beginning at 9 AM in person at the Nederlander box office. Menzel will draw winners beginning at 10 AM. You must be present at the time of the drawing to win, and must present a valid ID that matches the submitted name.
Those who do not win the lottery will have an opportunity to purchase specially priced tickets for the musical's preview performances, with mezzanine seats going for $55 and orchestra-level seating going for $75. That special pricing will only be available that morning.
The new musical, conceived by Menzel and director-book writer Tina Landau, follows Jesse, a woman who finds herself at a crossroads in a Northern California redwood forest after a life-altering event. The score features music by Kate Diaz and lyrics by Diaz and Landau. Menzel, starring as Jesse, is reprising her performance from the work's world premiere at California's La Jolla Playhouse earlier this year.
Also reprising their performances will be De'Adre Aziza as Mel, Michael Park as Finn, and Zachary Noah Piser as Spencer. Newly joining the company is Khaila Wilcoxon as Becca. Standbys Daniel Brackett, Bradley Dean, Veronica Otim, and Jessica Phillips will round out the company. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Patrick Goodwin.
The production will also feature scenic design by Jason Ardizzone-West, video design by Hana S. Kim, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Scott Zielinski, sound design by Jonathan Deans, vertical movement and choreography by Melecio Estrella of Bandaloop, and orchestrations and arrangements by Diaz, all reprising their work from the La Jolla world premiere. New for the Broadway bow is music supervisor Tom Kitt and music director Julie McBride.
