Regional News Indiana's Discovering Broadway Will Host 1-Night-Only Concert of The Trouble With Dead Boyfriends

Myha’la Herrold will lead the cast.

Indianpolis' Discovering Broadway will host a one-night-only concert performance of The Trouble With Dead Boyfriends April 20, with performances offered at 5 and 8 PM. The concert is the culmination of the musical's development process with the Indiana company, which included a writer's retreat in November 2023.

Featuring a book and lyrics by Annie Pulsipher and music and lyrics by Alex Petti, the musical centers on three best friends—Stella, Grace, and Madison—who are searching for the perfect dates to the senior prom. Obsessed with monsters, the three girls summon their dream dates, even though they're a little...dead. But when things take a turn for the worse as their dates reveal themselves to be monstrous, will the girls—and their friendship—survive?

The cast will be led by Myha'la Herrold, Jimmy Brewer, Arica Jackson, Ephraim Owens, and Eric Wigand, along with Izzy Casciani, Sadie Cohen, Brett Mutter, and Alanna Porter. Joel Kirk is directing with Sheela Ramesh providing additional orchestrations.

"Every time we think this show has taken its last step, it rises from the dead and claims more victims. Indiana’s next," says Petti in a statement. "This show is near and dear to my high school self’s heart, and I cannot wait for it to capture a larger audience in its hilarious thrall," adds Pulsipher.

The Trouble with Dead Boyfriends was previously workshopped and developed at Carnegie Mellon's Playground Festival and Berklee College of Music. It was also presented at the Premiere Premieres! Festival in Chicago in 2017 and SheNYC Festival in New York in 2018, and received awards from both presentations. Most recently, it ran Off-Broadway at the Players Theatre in summer 2023.
