In an interview with Variety, Maslow said, "I miss being on tour. Going out there on the road and seeing the country and meeting the fans, I miss that. And theater’s one of the hardest things you can do, so I’m excited to prove that I can do it.”
The cast will also feature Renee Olstead ("The Secret Life of the American Teenager").
Sherlock Holmes was adapted by playwright Greg Kramer from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic novels about an English detective with extraordinary deductive powers. Andrew Shaver will direct.
Kramer's "Sherlock Holmes" premiered in Montreal in 2013 at the Segal Theatre. The production was directed by Shaver, who took on the position after Kramer's death. In a statement, Arquette said, "I am beyond excited to play one of the most loved characters in all literature, stage and screen, Sherlock Holmes. Some may think I'm an odd choice. I am. I'm odd, but thankfully so is he."
Producer Corey Ross said in a statement, "this production’s frequent laugh-out-loud moments, melodramatic mysteries and sometimes nightmarish moments proved irresistible, and I knew within ten minutes of the curtain going up that I wanted to produce the show for an extended commercial life after Montreal. The Steampunk costumes and brilliant set design –featuring projections on metal scrims – give the production a distinct modern edge, yet all the while, it remains quintessentially Sherlock Holmes. It’s both timeless and contemporary and audiences will enjoy the way it slyly hints at current events and today’s political culture."
