Broadway's James Earl Jones Theatre and downtown's La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club will receive the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award. Presented by the New York Landmarks Conservatory, the annual awards honor preservation projects for historical buildings in NYC.
The James Earl Jones Theatre receives the award in acknowledgement of the Shubert Organization's recent restoration of the century-old theatre's interior, building systems, and façade, which features Neoclassical architecture.
La MaMa is honored for the restoration of the building's red brick façade, which features neo‐Grec German Renaissance Revival design elements, as well as the reinforcement of the building's foundation, and the implementation of an elevator to meet accessibility requirements.
The James Earl Jones Theatre and La MaMa will be honored in an April 10 ceremony at The Plaza.
