A One Night Only History of Broadway Song and Dance, part of The Town Hall's Broadway by the Year series, plays the famed New York venue September 19 at 8 PM.
Written, directed, and hosted by Scott Siegel, the evening concludes the 21st season of the concert series and celebrates the contribution of dance to the Broadway musical. The program highlights the work of George M. Cohan, Fred and Adele Astaire, Agnes de Mille, Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett, Tommy Tune, Susan Stroman, Andy Blankenbuehler, Sergio Trujillo, and Jerry Mitchell.
Performers include Jeannette Bayardelle (Girl From The North Country), Jarrod Spector (The Cher Show), Kelli Barrett (Getting’ The Band Back Together), Luke Hawkins (Xanadu), Rema Webb (Escape to Margaritaville), Kendrick Jones (Shuffle Along…), and Danny Gardner (Flying Over Sunset), who also choreographs. The evening also features the Broadway by the Year Dance Troupe and Chorus.
“We are excited to showcase the 'language' of movement in this year’s Broadway by the Year finale concert," said Siegel in an earlier statement. "It makes the American art form of musical theatre truly special; strictly speaking, without dance, the Broadway musical, as we know it, would not exist.”
