Mark Russell and ArKtype in partnership with International Presenting Commons, Creative and Independent Producer Alliance, and HowIRound Theatre Commons are presenting a 2024 Under the Radar Symposium January 12 at NYU Skirball. The event will bring together 250 arts presenters, producers, service organizations, funders, and artists to discuss the state and future of the industry, with an emphasis on strengthening the sector both nationally and internationally.

The event is part of the Under the Radar Festival, a series of experimental work currently being presented through January 21 via festival founder and director Russell, creative independent producers Thomas O. Kriegsmann and Sami Pyne of ArKtype, and a number of NYC theatre companies. Formerly a program of Off-Broadway's Public Theater, the series was put on "indefinite hiatus" last year with the company citing budget cuts. The current setup emerged last September, an unexpected save for the beloved and influential festival.

The January 12 symposium will begin with a session running from 9:30–11 AM, featuring remarks from playwright Jeremy O. Harris, Why Not Theatre Artistic Director Ravi Jain, director and performer Kaneza Schaal, and Arena Stage Artistic Director Hana Sharif. Live performances will be given by Taylor Mac and Sunny Jain and Love Force, the latter featuring Julia Chen, Almog Sharvit, Alison Shearer, David Adewumi, and Armando Vergara. Following the morning session, attendees will participate in an extended discussion forum.

The morning session of speeches and performances are open to the public and free of admission. Discussion groups are by invite only.
