The Public Theater celebrates the official opening of Sarah Burgess’ play Kings February 20, starring House of Cards actor and Pulitzer-nominated playwright Eisa Davis and Community star Gillian Jacobs. The Dry Powder playwright has reunited with Tony-winning Hamilton director Thomas Kail for the funny new play about money, politics, and the cost of democracy.
The world-premiere production of Kings began performances January 30 and has been extended through April 1.

In Kings, set in Washington, D.C., representative Sydney Millsap (Davis) goes head to head with lobbyist Kate (Jacobs) in a battle to defend the state of the American republic. Will Kate back the system or what she believes in?
Jacobs returns to the Public following her performance in The Little Flower of East Orange in 2008, directed by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Davis’ Broadway credits include Passing Strange; Off-Broadway she has appeared in Julius Caesar, Preludes, The Call, Luck of the Irish, and her own play, Angela’s Mixtape.
The production features scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Jason Lyons, and original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones.
