After its record-breaking premiere at The Old Vic earlier this year, Just for One Day—The Live Aid Musical will transfer to London's West End beginning May 15, 2025, at The Shaftesbury Theatre. A special gala performance is also scheduled for July 13, exactly 40 years after the concerts were staged in London and Philadelphia.
Featuring the songs of Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, U2, Queen, The Police, Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo, Paul Weller, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, Diana Ross, Ultravox, and more, Just for One Day tells the story of Live Aid, when 70 artists performed, for free, in front of an audience of 1.5 billion in a "global jukebox" at Wembley Stadium, London, and John F. Kennedy Stadium, Philadelphia, to raise $127 million for famine relief.
Just for One Day, written by John O’Farrell (Mrs. Doubtfire, Something Rotten!) and directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, The Little Big Things), officially opened its limited engagement at London's The Old Vic February 13. Read the reviews here.
Craige Els will return to the role of Bob Geldof with further casting to be announced. Performances are currently scheduled through January 10, 2026.
Producer Jamie Wilson said in a statement, "Just for One Day was the fastest selling musical in The Old Vic's history. The upcoming production will also have musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Matthew Brind, choreography by Ebony Molina, sets by Soutra Gilmour, costumes by Fay Fullerton, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound by Gareth Owen, video and animation by Andrzej Goulding, and casting by Stuart Burt.
The musical is produced by Jamie Wilson Productions, Kevin McCollum, Sonia Friedman Productions, Gavin Kalin Productions, Kenny Wax Ltd, The Ambassador Theatre Group, Mirvish Productions, Nederlander Theatres, No Guarantees, Burnt Umber Productions, Stephen C Byrd, Willette and Manny Klausner, and The Old Vic by permission of The Band Aid Charitable Trust.
