Following reports of sexual misconduct allegations against Long Wharf Theatre’s Gordon Edelstein, the company’s board of trustees voted to terminate the artistic director from his position, effective immediately.

The board also decided to reconsider policies and procedures through a forthcoming third party independent review.

Until a new artistic director is appointed, Managing Director Joshua Borenstein will lead both artistic and administrative affairs at the New Haven, Connecticut theatre.

The New York Times reported accounts of four women who detailed a range of allegations against Edelstein, including groping, sexual advances, and inappropriate remarks. The board had been made aware of some of these complaints at the time they were reported, though the alleged behavior persisted.

“This is a time that demands sober self-reflection and openness,” said board chair Laura Pappano in a statement. ““We must do more to create the kind of working environment that our talented and committed staff deserve.”
