Mary Zimmerman Goes Back to Sea with New Treasure Island | Playbill

News Mary Zimmerman Goes Back to Sea with New Treasure Island Mary Zimmerman, the bold Chicago-based director who once filled a Broadway stage with a giant pool for an adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses (and won a Tony Award for it), is going back to sea this fall with a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s pirate classic, Treasure Island.

The new adaptation, from the director of The Arabian Nights, Eleven Rooms of Proust and The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, will open the 2015-16 season at Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre Company, where she is an ensemble member. No cast has yet been announced for the production, which will open Oct. 17 and run through the holiday season. Treasure Island tells the story of young Jim Hawkins who is swept up with Long John Silver and his pirate band as they head out to find buried treasure on a distant island.

The production will debut at the Water Tower Water Works theatre in Chicago. In spring 2016 it will move to Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California, which is a co-producer.

Season subscriptions to Lookingglass are on sale now at lookingglasstheatre.org. Single tickets ($35-$85) go on sale in August.
