The new musical A Lasting Impression is receiving a reading July 13 at Playwrights Horizons rehearsal studios. The new work by Emily Kaczmarek and Zoe Sarnak will have an additional two staged readings July 20 as part of the New York Musical Festival.
A Lasting Impression follows Kali and Simone, two sisters—both artists and recent roommates—who become romantically and creatively entangled with the same person. “They live, work, and navigate their mother’s chronic illness in close quarters and relative peace – until they meet Jo, a journalist wrestling with the cost of her recent assignment in Syria,“ state production notes. “As each sister becomes romantically and creatively entangled with Jo, all three women are forced to examine how they relate to their art, the world, and to one another.“
The star-studded cast features Candy Buckley (Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Theo Stockman (American Psycho, American Idiot), Ben Moss (Freedom Riders), Jennifer Damiano (American Psycho), Ciara Renée (Big Fish), Meghann Fahy (Next to Normal) And Krista Pioppi (Lazarus).
The reading is directed by Whitney Mosery (American Psycho), with musical direction by Benjamin Rauhala.
