An additional 1,590 shows have been announced for this August's Edinburgh Fringe, including several exciting musical theatre offerings.

The new musical adaptation of the cult-classic film Drop Dead Gorgeous will present a special sneak peek work-in-progress concert series at Pleasance, allowing audiences to see the development of the show before its fully realized premiere.

Mary Mary Quite Contrary will the story of Mary Whitehouse at theSpaceUK, In The Sleeping Beau will reimagine the Sleeping Beauty fairytale at Central Hall, and the world premiere of the musical comedy Pop Off, Michelangelo! at Gilded Balloon will explore the friendship between Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.

At ZOO, Non-Player Character: Live Virtual Reality Musical will bridge the gap between immersive theatre, escape rooms, and improv style concert storytelling, and at Summerhall, Tones: A Hip-Hop Opera will combine the sonic centers of hip-hop, grime and drill with the melodrama of opera. At Laughing Horse, Happy Medium will tell the story of a psychic medium in 1970s New York.

Chinese legend will be brought to life in Legend of the White Snake at C arts, which will be performed with the subtle dance movements of Kunqu, and Korean musical performance will be brought to the fore with Scissors Dance at Greenside. How to Become a Taiwanese: A Musical will play Paradise Green, and Florencia Iriondo will premiere her new work, Meet Me in Buenos Aires, at Underbelly.

For the operatically minded, the Hu Opera's Love Bridge at Venue150 will explore the characteristics of the Shanghai opera, a production of Bizet's Carmen as directed by Jacob Zualski will play the Stockbridge Church, and at Edinburgh New Town Church, the Fringe will premiere a new version of Francis Poulenc's 1950s opera La Voix Humaine, with lyrics by Jean Cocteau and featuring soprano Jennifer Witton.
