The cast features Beauty and the Beast and Les Misérables star Sarah Litzsinger, along with Christopher Bloch (Cloak & Dagger), Laura Darrell (Smiling the Boy Fell Dead), Jeffry Denman (The Producers), Valerie Leonard (Sunday in the Park with George), Tony nominee Christiane Noll (Witches of Eastwick), Bobby Smith (The Threepenny Opera) and Jake Winn, in the lead role as 17-year-old Luke.
A co-production with Off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre, Kid Victory is directed by Liesl Tommy, who made headlines this past summer for her contemporary re-imagining of Les Miz at Dallas Theatre Center. Performances will continue through March 22 at Signature's MAX Theatre.
The new musical looks at the life of a teenager following his year-long absence from home. According to the Signature, "Profoundly changed, Luke and his parents struggle to adjust to life following his disappearance. Only finding solace with Emily (played by Litzsinger), the quirky proprietor of an offbeat garden shop, Luke grapples with a past undone and a coming of age that came too late to a boy who just wants to fade away."
Kid Victory marks the second collaboration between Kander and Pierce. Their first musical, The Landing, premiered at The Vineyard Theatre in 2013 and received critical acclaim.
The production also has choreography by Christopher Windom, musical supervision by David Loud, music direction by Jesse Kissel, orchestrations by Michael Starobin, scenic design by Clint Ramos, costume design by Kathleen Geldard, wig design by Anne Nesmith, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design by Lane Elms. Creative team members also include assistant director Walter Ware III; production stage manager Julie Meyer; and assistant stage manager Kristen Mary Harris. New York casting is by Henry Russell Bergstein, CSA. Signature Theatre is located at 4200 Campbell Avenue, Arlington, VA.
