Industry News New Musical Wesley Will Get Developmental Reading

The musical is inspired by Stacey O’Brien’s New York Times bestselling memoir Wesley The Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl.

Wesley, a new musical written by Scott Steidl and Mark Hantoot, will receive a developmental reading later this month.

Inspired by Stacey O’Brien’s New York Times bestselling memoir Wesley The Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl, the show centers on a young musician and wildlife enthusiast who trades human relationships for a life spent with an injured barn owl.

Directed by Mary Duncan, the private industry readings will be held May 15, and star Andrianna Ayala, Daniel Sanchez, Christa Lisette Beveridge, Jacob Heacock, Ryan Alexander, Tara Dougherty, Olivia Heaner, and Joseph Richwine.

Wesley has previously been developed over multiple workshops at the Opera Department of the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, where the production’s director serves as Managing Artistic Director. The imminent New York workshop marks the first time the material has been seen outside of Peabody.
