Asolo Rep’s 60th anniversary season will kick off with the Tony Award-winning The Music Man, directed by Newsies Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun. Running November 13–December 29, Noah Racey (Never Gonna Dance) will star as fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill, who brings trouble to River City, Iowa, when he cons the townspeople into buying instruments for an imaginary band.

The upcoming season will also include Arthur Miller's The Crucible (January 9–March 10, 2019), directed by Asolo Rep Producing Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards; Lucas Hnath's A Doll's House, Part 2 (January 16–March 31), directed by Peter Amster; Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning Sweat (February 6–April 13), directed by Nicole A. Watson; Michael Frayn's backstage farce Noises Off (March 20–April 20); Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake (April 3–28), directed by Lavina Jadhwani; a re-imagined production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (May 1–26), directed by Peter Rothstein; and Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days, directed by Theresa Heskins.

“From a community invigorated by love and music in The Music Man, to a 17th-century Massachusetts village torn apart by fear and sexual repression in The Crucible, to the hilarious camaraderie and dysfunction central to Noises Off, our 2018-19 season is a vibrant look at how communities evolve and band together in times of great turmoil, joy and change,” said Asolo Rep Producing Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards in a statement. “Both Sweat and A Doll's House, Part 2, written by two of America’s most exciting playwrights, show what happens when the political becomes deeply personal, while The Cake searches for genuine empathy in a divided world. We finish our season with Sweeney Todd, a delicious and artful look at how revenge warps a community, and Around the World in 80 Days, an inspiring, imaginative call to broaden our horizons. I urge you to join us for a season that promises thrilling stories about communities in the exciting thrall of change and discovery.”
